Our School

Manchester Public School opened its doors in 1917 in response to continued growth in the town of Galt. J.L. Daniel, the school’s first principal, served for 33 years after opening the school with 3 classrooms. During the war years it was reported that Manchester had grown to 8 classrooms with a Grade 7 class of 47 students along with a Grade 1 class of 52. Classes are somewhat smaller today! Manchester has been an active school with many notable events one of which was the very first Home and School Association in this area, beginning in 1941. Manchester School has enjoyed a rich history and we look forward to a long and prosperous future!

Our Students

Manchester currently has almost 400 JK to Grade 6 students. Our population is diverse, representing many countries and languages spoken by many of our families. Manchester graduates move on to Avenue Road for Grades 7 and 8 and to Galt Collegiate Institute for secondary school.

Our Staff

Manchester School is fortunate to have a dedicated and involved staff made up of approximately 50 employees and dozens of volunteers. This strong team provides programming and support in all areas.

Facilities and Resources

Manchester Public School was built in 1917. A 4-room addition was added in 1953 and the gymnasium was constructed in 1967. The original building has great character with three levels, high ceilings, wooden floors and windows in all of the classrooms. The school is located in an industrial area of Cambridge bordered by rail tracks, factories and a highway. This industrial location has played a key role in the efforts made to revitalize the playground and structure over the last few years.   In March 2015, the modern and fully accessible addition officially opened adding 7 new classrooms and a library. The combined old and new space now provide an improved space for children to grow and learn.
